G’day! I am Jessikah McCarthy and I am an Entrant in this year’s Miss Wagga Wagga Quest. I grew up in The Rock and moved to Wollongong to complete a Bachelor of Health and Physical Education. After completing my degree, I moved back to Wagga Wagga to pursue my career as a PDHPE Teacher. I joined the Miss Wagga Wagga Quest as I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to become more involved in and give back to our local community. What a rewarding experience this has been so far!
On Saturday the 10th of July, we held our first event – a meat tasting experience at CSU. We had many people very generously give some of their time on a Saturday afternoon to taste some beef and assist us with our first fundraising event. We held three tasting sessions throughout the afternoon, and we were very fortunate to have a lucky door prize for each session donated by South Wagga Butchery.
We spent the next couple of weeks finalising all the details for our “Through the Decades” themed trivia night, including organising the decorations, writing the questions for our trivia rounds and creating the games for between the rounds.
Before we knew it, the 30th of July had arrived. Each Entrant hosted a round of trivia, from the 1960’s through to the 2010’s. We loved seeing all of our guests dressing up with the theme and we awarded prizes for best dressed costumes. To make the COVID-19 mask wearing restrictions a little more fun, we also gave prizes for the best masks. The Entrants had a fantastic evening dressing up in costumes from our chosen decades and enjoyed the experience of hosting this event ourselves. The night was a great success and the money raised will be a great contribution to our fundraising goals to support our chosen beneficiaries this year.
On behalf of the Miss Wagga Wagga Quest Entrants, I would like to thank Romano’s Hotel for allowing us to use their venue for our trivia night and the Rotary Club of Wollundry for the use of their audio equipment. Thank you to all who attended and to those who donated prizes and equipment in support of our event. Your contributions were all greatly appreciated!
Before I sign off, I would like to take the opportunity to thank my sponsor Embrace of Hair Studio for their continuous support throughout this incredible experience.
It has been a great privilege to work alongside four incredible young women to organise our events so far and we hope to see you at one of our events soon!
