On April 1st, Melissa had an enjoyable evening practicing her face painting skills at the Henschke School Fete. It was a wonderful to see so many families enjoying themselves at this lovely event.
Melissa also went on Star FM and 2WG on April 4th for our monthly titleholder interviews. Don’t forget to tune in on the first Monday of every month to hear all about our adventures.
On April 3rd, Megan joined the Autism Support Group for their annual Superhero Walk around Lake Albert. Dressed as Mrs. Incredible, Megan helped out at the merchandise table and also participated in the walk itself. It was great to see so many supporters enjoying the day at Apex Park.
We had the pleasure of joining the View Club for their monthly Luncheon on April 14th. We were able to tell the View Club members about our time as MWWQ entrants and the amazing opportunities that have been presented to us as the current titleholders! We had a fantastic time sharing our stories with this lovely (and very appreciative) group of ladies.
That evening we had the pleasure of attending the Qantaslink Anniversary to celebrate 15 years of flying between Wagga and Sydney! We are so very grateful to Qantaslink for their ongoing sponsorship of the MWWQ - one of the longest sponsorship relationships in Australia!
On April 25th, we attended the ANZAC Day Ceremony at the Victory Memorial Gardens. Here we assisted war veterans to their chairs and we also had the privilege of laying a wreath on behalf of the Ambulance Service.
The Miss Wagga Wagga Quest has welcomed 6 lovely entrants this year to be a part of the 2017 Quest. The girls had their official Launch on April 27th where they each gave their first public speech. As the current titleholders we had the pleasure of being MCs for the evening. Keep an eye out for the girls fundraising events throughout the year!
Melissa’s Wagga Wagga Takes 2 (WWT2) journey has come to an end after a massive few months of fundraising. Melissa had 3 fundraisers in April including; a bush dance at Downside with the Tin Shed Rattlers on April 2nd, Fitness in the Park on April 3rd and a Charity Golf Day at Wagga Wagga City Golf Club on the 8th of April. Melissa fundraised for Kurrajong Early Childhood Intervention Services (KEIS) to buy resources and equipment to help children who have a disability or a developmental delay. Heading into the show Melissa had raised nearly $15000 (with more money still to come once she gets her share from the WWT2 shows). Although Melissa was extremely nervous – she was proud to conquer her fear of singing in public to raise money for a good cause! Melissa was paired with local singer Deirdre Moulden and together they performed the song Delta Dawn. WWT2 2016 was a very successful fundraiser with over half a million dollars raised for local Wagga Wagga charities!
A new initiative launched this year is the Community Princess Foundation. The foundation provides small grants (to the value of approximately $200) to local charities, sporting groups and individuals who need a hand. Applications for the Community Princess Foundation grants are on the website. Perks of being approved for a grant are that you get the Community Princess hand deliver a special cheque!
We would like to continue to join the local community at as many events as possible throughout 2016. If you would like us to attend your special event, please do not hesitate to contact us by email ([email protected]). We welcome every opportunity to be involved in our beautiful community.
