MWW & CP December Post

Welcome to 2017! On behalf of us, the titleholders, and the MWWQ committee, we hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

To end the year, December brought a number of events and opportunities for community engagement which led to the Christmas and New Year break.

On December 1, we attended the launch of the 2017 Wagga Wagga Takes Two (WWT2) at the William Farrer Hotel where we were both announced as contestants. WWT2 is a charitable competition which has 12 local celebrities paired with local singers, performing 3 shows with each of the celebrities having a chosen charity that they are raising funds for. The funds are raised by the celebrity in the lead up to the 3 performances. Sarah is partnered with Joel Harrison and is raising funds for Wagga Women’s Health Centre and Jes is partnered with Josh McKellar with her charity being the Specialist Medical Resources Foundation (SMRF). Keep an eye out on the Quest Facebook page for details of fundraising events we will be holding shortly. We are both so excited for the new experiences that are coming in the next few months with WWT2!

On 5 December we attended our radio interviews with StarFM and 2WG – always good fun to be on the radio and to let the community know what we’re up to.

With Christmas just around the corner we assisted with the Country Hope Gift Wrapping stall in the Sturt Mall. It was great to help out one of our chosen beneficiaries from the past year and it gave us a chance to show off our amazing gift wrapping skills for a gold coin donation. Thank you to the 2016 Community Princess Megan Short for helping us out at the stall.

We were invited to attend the Mayor’s Christmas Party on 14 December at the Wagga Wagga Country Club, where we were able to meet a number of Wagga’s well-known figures and cap off the year with a celebration of the achievements of Wagga Wagga City Council in 2016. Thank you to Mayor Conkey for the invitation.

Another of our beneficiaries, and Jes’s WWT2 charity; SMRF held an incredible event known as Light the Night in the Civic Theatre Precinct. This event brought Disneyland to Wagga by giving local kids a chance to meet characters such as Cinderella and Buzz Lightyear! SMRF provided an incredible environment for the kids to attend, with a highlight being the amazing group of local singers belting out Christmas Carols. We were stationed at the front gate and felt very lucky to be able to help out at such a fantastic event.

Barbecues Galore again proved that they are a wonderful charitable business by providing a new BBQ as the prize for a raffle supporting Cystic Fibrosis. Sarah was asked to attend the raffle and draw out the lucky winner. The raffle raised much needed funds for Cystic Fibrosis which was incredible as every cent helps.

Our final attendance for 2016 was visiting the Wagga Wagga Rural Referral Hospital’s Paediatrics Ward to visit the children and bring some Christmas cheer to those who needed it. This was a truly touching experience for both of us and we feel so grateful to have met these children who all showed incredible strength. One of these children was Megan who was made an honorary princess for the day! Thank you to all the staff that assisted with the visit.

2016 was a truly amazing year for us with the highlights being our journey as quest entrants and then eventually being crowned as titleholders. We are both full of curiosity and excitement as to what 2017 will bring for us as titleholders and we are grateful for the support the community of Wagga Wagga is continuing to provide.

If anyone would like for us to be involved in any event you or an organisation has coming up, please do not hesitate to contact us. Our email is [email protected].

The MWWQ Committee is now seeking entrants for the 2018 MWWQ, If you are interested in taking up the challenge or know someone who may be interested in this life changing   journey  please follow the links to the application page and apply now.
