What an incredible month we’ve had, but first, let's go back to where it all started…
The Crowning!
As the 2nd of November was approaching, it was a bittersweet feeling as our journey as Entrants was coming to an end. We had spent the past eight months preparing for this night and whatever the outcome was, we all agreed that this was one of the best experiences we’d had. We have made such incredible and lifelong friendships. Thank you to Belinda, Gabby, Kat and Shauna for being a part of this incredible journey with us.
We would like to say a huge thank you to the Wagga Wagga Veteran and Vintage Motor Club who supplied our amazing transport for the evening! The Entrants, Titleholders and Committee Members all enjoyed cruising down Baylis Street in the beautifully restored and maintained 1912 Daimler CC Double Decker Bus and other stunning vintage vehicles. The laughter and fun we had added to the surreal feeling of the entire evening.
As the ceremony progressed, we all felt anxious for the culmination of all of our hard work and memorable moments together. The first to be announced by Mayor Dallas Tout was the Community Princess and when Maggie’s name was called there was a slight delay as the words set in and she truly believed that it was her name that had just been announced. As Community Princess 2024, Jess Barclay, prepared Maggie with her new attire, there were a few moments of comedy before Maggie accepted the title graciously.
Soon, it was time to hear which Entrant would be crowned Miss Wagga Wagga for 2025. Dr Joe McGirr announced Amy Hickey as the new Miss Wagga Wagga Titleholder. As she was crowned and adorned in her cape and sceptre by Miss Wagga Wagga 2024, Velika Hayes, Amy felt a surreal rush and sense of humility about her new service role to the Wagga Wagga community. Amy then addressed the audience and credited many of the women who helped empower her throughout the journey to her success and personal growth.
The newly crowned Titleholders were already friends prior to joining the Quest. In fact, it was Amy who encouraged Maggie to join the Quest as an Entrant and so becoming the 2025 Titleholders together was a very special moment.
This was definitely a night to remember and reflecting on it still brings a smile to our faces. Both of us, along with our fellow Entrants, shared our highlights as a group over the past year, our personal favourite moments and reflected on the journey of personal and professional growth that we all participated in.
We were also very excited to hand over the money we had raised to our local beneficiaries including, The Sarah Lloyd Scholarship Fund, Ronald McDonald House South West NSW, Country Hope and Riding for the Disabled Wagga Wagga. Over the past year we truly valued getting to know the people that run these organisations and we were so honoured to help them as they support our community.
Miss Wagga Wagga 2024, Velika Hayes, and Community Princess 2024, Jess Barclay, shared their highlights from their time over the past year as the Titleholders. Both of these women have been wonderful role models for us as the 2025 Entrants and we have valued the support and guidance you both shared. At the end of the night the Australian Army Band Kapooka performed to their usual incredible entertaining standard, while everyone celebrated the night with family and friends.
After the Crowning evening, the celebration continued as we jumped straight into our new roles as Titleholders, hitting the ground running with media interviews including Jamie and Leigh at Triple M Riverina, the morning show with Stru at Triple AAA FM, Chris Rowe from Region Riverina, and Daniel Briggs at The Deniliquin Pastoral Times. We were also extremely humbled to be mentioned as part of Dr Joe McGirr’s Community Recognition Statement in Parliament House.
Our respective workplaces were very excited to meet the new ambassadors for the City of Wagga. The children at all 5 of the KU Children's Services preschools, were very excited to learn all about princesses and see the Community Princess tiara and the students at Henschke Catholic Primary School were surprised to have Miss Wagga Wagga in her full regalia present awards at Monday morning assembly. Both Titleholders are very fortunate to have such supportive workplaces.
We also participated in community events such as attending the Committee for Wagga 'Welcome to Wagga Wagga' gathering where we welcomed new families to our city into the community. We enjoyed a barbeque dinner cooked by Rotary Club members and enjoyed hearing everyone’s stories and reasons for relocating to this wonderful city.
At the Remembrance Day Ceremony we took part in laying a wreath at the Victory Memorial Gardens to commemorate those who have served in our defence forces.
We then celebrated Christmas early, attending the Country Hope Christmas party where we assisted Santa with handing out presents to the children, families and volunteers.
We reconvened with our fellow Entrants and Quest Committee Members and friends to support fellow Entrant, Kat, in her debut at the Riverina Comedy Club show at the Thirsty Crow. It was great to see her take the stage and for us to all laugh the night away until our cheeks hurt!
It has been a great start to our year as Titleholders and we are both beyond proud and honoured to be representing the Wagga Wagga community.
Your 2025 Titleholders,
Miss Wagga Wagga - Amy Hickey
