It's getting close to the end of our reign, but this month is sure to be the highlight of our entire Quest journey. We have had the honour and pleasure of spending the month in Europe.

The first week of September was spent representing our town in our Sister-City Nördlingen. We were then lucky enough to extend our travels with a TopDeck tour around Europe and a few days in London.  What happens on tour stays on tour though, so we'll concentrate on our week in Nördlingen ☺

It's hard to put into words how much we enjoyed our time in Nördlingen! The hospitality of Nördlingen's Oberburgermeister Hermann Faul, his councillors, our tour organiser David Wittner and the townsfolk in general was second to none. Everywhere we went people were glad to see us, and would call out "Vagga Vagga" with excitement.

We had the pleasure of having a guided tour of Nördlingen, were able to walk the top of the 2.6km city wall, climb 365 steps up the Daniel Tower to experience a 360 degree view of the local area, as well as take a guided tour of the local police station.

On top of this we attended numerous functions celebrating our 50 year anniversary of the twinning of our cities and had front row seats to watch the Stadtmauerfest parades. The Staedtmauerfest is a medieval festival held by Nördlingen every 3 years to celebrate their town wall, which is one of only 3 town walls remaining in it's entirety.

We had the pleasure of experiencing the incredible atmosphere of the festival, wandering around the local stalls, chatting to townsfolk and even scoring some free food and drinks! 😉

The highlight of the week however was definitely participating in the Historic Parade with our then Mayor Rod Kendall and General Manager, Alan Eldridge. For approximately an hour we walked the jam-packed streets of Nördlingen to smiling faces, cheers from locals and waving children. You couldn't help but smile the entire way around.

It was an honour and a privilege to be part of the Wagga delegation that travelled to Nördlingen. If you ever have the opportunity to travel to Germany, we highly recommend visiting our beautiful sister city where you will be welcomed with open arms!

For now it's on to our last month of duties, before we sadly hand over our crowns on Saturday 5th November at the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery.
