We are half way through the year and there’s no better time to reflect on the year so far!
In the month of June Miss Wagga Wagga, Kate Pevere and Community Princess, Haylee Burkinshaw have had a very special month sharing memories with our Wagga Wagga community.
On the June long weekend we were invited to accompany the Wagga Wagga Veteran and Vintage Car Motor Club Rally. There were over 180 participants who came from all around the state to Wagga Wagga to show off their prize possessions, whether it was a car, bus or motorbike. These vehicles have so many stories and bring so many smiles to our entire city. It was very special to be able to give back and assist the Club that have spent generations supporting many women through the nerves and excitement of the Crowning Ceremony by providing beautiful cars to transport the Entrants. We spent the weekend, along with committee members and 2024 Entrants, selling raffle tickets, helping with organisation and catering for the participants.
The Community Princess Foundation had a busy month presenting two grants; The Vilomah Community and the Turvey Park Girl Guides. The Vilomah Community was founded by Megan and Bek, two mums who suffered a personal tragedy but turned it into a safe space for so many within our community, with hopes to see this go Australia wide. The Turvey Park Girl Guides were excited and enthused young girls. I asked the girls what their favourite part was about the girl guides and I had 3 main responses; friendship, new skills and enjoying working hard for new badges. The girl guides are all run by volunteers and can’t continue without them, so if you’re looking at doing some volunteering please reach out. Haylee was very proud to be able to support these two very worthy community recipients.
Community Princess, Haylee was accompanied by Miss Wagga Wagga Entrant, Mikayla to attend the Amie St Clair Winter Wonderland Ball. This event was an emotional rollercoaster full of laughs, tears, knowledge and more laughs. If you have not had a skin check within the last 12 months please GO NOW! No matter your age, and remind family and friends to attend them regularly, it could save a life.
Miss Wagga Wagga, Kate attended another very special Citizenship Ceremony where 25 new citizens were announced to Wagga Wagga. Earlier in June, Kate was also invited to be the official time keeper at the Great Wagga Comedy Club Debate that saw the hot topic of “Are smartphones making us stupid?” be up for debate. A night of plenty of laughs.
Something close to both Kate and Haylee is the incredible work at the Australian Red Cross Life Blood! Donating blood is a very easy thing many of us in the community can do, if you’re wanting to donate blood or plasma but have concerns please reach out and we’re happy to go down with you!
