Is it really March already? The first few months of our reign have absolutely flown by.
This month started off with Maddie speaking to our local Rotaract Club of CSU about the Miss Wagga Quest, and the benefits of young people being so involved in our local community. It was a pleasure to speak to the group, and hear about their plans for the upcoming year. Maddie is also a previous Rotary Youth Leadership Award participant, so being able to interact with this group was even more significant.
On the 14th, we were lucky enough to once again jump on the radio at Hit 93.1 FM and Triple MMM Riverina, where we spoke about recent engagements, called for entrants and beneficiaries for the upcoming year and pushed the upcoming events for Zoe’s Wagga Wagga Takes Two journey, raising money for the Wagga Rescue Squad. Thanks to Hit 93.1 FM and Triple MMM Riverina for their ongoing support of the MWWQ!
On Saturday 17th February, we attended the Defence Community Organisation’s Welcome to Wagga event, held at the Oasis. We were able to speak to many local groups who were represented with information stands, informing new Defence families on the services and activities available to them in Wagga Wagga. We also got to meet some new Defence families, and welcome them to our city!
We had another big day on Sunday 18th February, when we attended the 2018 World Championship Gumi Race – a classic Wagga event! We were happy to help Apex, walking the bank of the river and selling raffle tickets. It was a perfect day, and the combination of the Gumi Race and Cork & Fork Fest made for one awesome afternoon. Watching the different Gumi crafts come in was a definite highlight.
On Tuesday 20th February, Maddie gave blood at our local blood bank, as part of the ongoing Miss Wagga Wagga Quest blood bank team initiative, started by Miss Wagga 2016, Melissa McKinnon. Always a fantastic way to give back (and get a free milkshake!).
On Friday 23rd February, we were delighted to be asked to attend the 25th anniversary of Wagga Wagga becoming the World’s First Rotary Peace City, at a lunchtime event hosted by Mayor of Wagga Wagga, Cr Greg Conkey OAM. We got to meet some great Rotarians, from all around our local area. The city was full of celebrations throughout the weekend, to celebrate this occasion.
Also on Friday 23rd February, Zoe was able to attend the RANCH (RAAF, Army and Navy Community House) Welcome to Wagga BBQ. There were many new Defence families present, bonding over jumping castles, fairy floss and more.
In Zoe’s upcoming journey for Thomas Brothers Wagga Wagga Takes Two, there is another fundraising event in the works – Trivia for Zoe on Saturday 7th April, at the Commercial Club Wagga. Zoe is raising funds for the Wagga Wagga Rescue Squad VRA, and all support is appreciated! Bookings can be made by calling Helen Bodel on 0400 073 310.
