The final month of the Quest, October has been jam-packed with smaller fundraisers planned as well as our last Entrant event, the High Tea, ahead of the Crowning Event on November 5th! Starting with a Raffle stall at the Wagga Wagga Marketplace, on October 2nd, the morning after a night shift at Ronald McDonald House Charity Wagga Wagga, selling last-minute raffle tickets and Jolly Soles socks (with a wonderful gentleman nearly buying us out of socks) before our Major Raffle was drawn at the High Tea event on the 9th of October. Entrants hosted the meat tray raffles at the Union Club Hotel every Friday evening throughout October. What a fantastic venue, with the most generous and friendly patrons. Huge thanks to Pat for his support over the year.
The High Tea was the event I was most excited about. There may have been a small meltdown over meringues, and you probably won’t see me on Bake-Off anytime soon, but the results certainly spoke for themselves, with over 100 people having a lovely afternoon. We are so grateful to all the community members who baked treats and helped out in the kitchen. Our guest speakers Leanne Saunders, Mina Savill, Sheree Moore and all who came to support us on the day.
Mid-October Entrant Kate held a Spin Class fundraiser at Club Lime, I attended a Bunnings BBQ in support of Rotaract Club of Wagga Wagga and a small intimate event with our Quest Beneficiary, Memories For Mia in the evening that was quite close to home. Every year on October 15th, all across the globe, candles are lit at 7 pm for one hour to remember the babies that were lost far too soon (Wave of Light). Every year I mourn the loss of a sister I never got to meet, who passed away from SIDS in 1984.
I wouldn’t change my busy life for the world, however, I did manage to misplace my Entrant name badge after my very busy (and emotional) day.
On October 27th, fellow Entrant Celine and I went to see the opening show of Life In The Spotlight, a yearly musical masterpiece fundraiser put on in collaboration with the Specialist Medical Resource Foundation, another of our beneficiaries. I happened to be wearing the same pink blazer I wore to the Memories For Mia Wave Of Light, and you can guess what I found in my pocket! As a music lover, it was well worth staying up past my bedtime to see it.
At the end of a very busy month on October 29th, Miss Wagga Wagga Quest Entrants were offered the opportunity to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House Charity Gala Ball. Fellow Entrant Kate and I enjoyed experiencing the amazing generosity and heart of our local business owners. We also met beloved Australian comedian Tahir (the nicest and funniest man you'll ever meet!), caught up with an old friend from Macca's and made a new friend in a teddy bear named Henry!
The next day, Entrants Celine, Haylee and I hosted our final fundraiser. My sponsor Vickie from The Curious Rabbit and I had talked about holding an event there all Quest, hoping to utilise our mutual love of vinyl records. I had a brain wave after our Back To School Trivia Night, and was able to turn my music round into its own event, and we held a Vinyl Music Trivia! It was super exciting and better than expected, and we may have to do it again! Ending our month, all 7 Entrants got up bright and early to have our final media interview with WIN News Riverina to talk about our overall experiences throughout the Quest, and about our upcoming Crowning, which is this Saturday! Eek! We are so grateful for this incredible opportunity and look forward to continuing our community involvement in the future.
